Pupil Wellbeing

Supporting the most profound and complex SEND children and young people to be happy, healthy, and regulated is critical to success in both learning and life. My name is Dee Dockery and in the ten plus years I have taught at Curnow I have developed an absolute passion for creating pupil well-being practices and strategies for staff to use to get the young people at Curnow School regulated and ready to learn. As can be seen by the example snapshots of our well-being offer below, I have worked diligently to put together a comprehensive bespoke well-being package for our school that can be drawn upon to develop individual well-being plans and therapeutic programmes for our most complex students.

My drive and commitment to this area is further evidenced by spending the last three years studying for a Masters in Values-led Leadership focused on pupil well-being. This has afforded me the opportunity to not only research in depth types of well-being strategies to use, but also gain a deeper knowledge and understanding about the theoretical practices and principles that underpin them. As a Master student and Trauma Informed trained practitioner, I am dedicated to improving the outcomes for the students in our school.

Snapshot of the Pupil Wellbeing offer at Curnow:

We recognise that all the pupils attending Curnow have additional needs and require a range of support strategies to maintain their well-being to enable them to access and achieve their learning outcomes. We recognise that positive relationships between staff and pupils are a major influence in encouraging good behaviour and positive well-being. We aim to establish a safe and caring environment  that provides  encouragement, structure, order, a sense of community and high quality education. The pupils experience positive behaviour for learning approaches and management systems employed will be consistent, taking into account every pupil’s individual needs.
